A. Lange & Söhne
ActiveGerman watchmaker founded in 1845 in Glashütte, crafting only a few thousand wristwatches per year endowed exclusively with proprietary movements that are lavishly decorated and twice assembled by hand.
Ferdinand Adolph Lange founded A. Lange & Cie in Glashütte in 1845. His graduates founded their own supplier firms, creating the Glashütte watchmaking cluster. In 1868, when his sons Richard and Emil joined, the company became A. Lange & Söhne. The company was nationalized in 1948 following Soviet occupation, and the Lange name disappeared from dials after 1951. On December 7, 1990, Walter Lange, Ferdinand's great-grandson, re-established the company as Lange Uhren GmbH with Günter Blümlein and assistance from IWC and Jaeger-LeCoultre. The first new collection debuted in 1994 with the Lange 1, Saxonia, Arkade, and 1815. Richemont acquired the company in 2000. With 73 manufacture calibres developed since 1990, Lange has secured a top-tier position among the world's finest watch manufacturers.
