Independent German manufacture reviving the legacy of 19th-century watchmaker Karl Moritz Grossmann, founded in 2008 by Christine Hutter.

Christine Hutter, a trained watchmaker with experience at Wempe, Maurice Lacroix, Glashütte Original, and A. Lange & Söhne, founded Grossmann Uhren GmbH on November 11, 2008 in Glashütte during the financial crisis. She acquired the rights to use the name of Karl Moritz Grossmann (1826-1885), a 19th-century watchmaker who founded the German School of Watchmaking in 1878. The company initially operated from Hutter's residence in Dresden before relocating to Glashütte. In 2010, with 16 employees, they released their first watch, the Benu. The company moved to a new purpose-built manufacture on Uferstrasse 1 in 2012-2013. Notable innovations include the Benu Tourbillon, the world's first watch to use human hair as an integral movement component for the stop-seconds mechanism. The manufacture has grown to 46 employees and continues to develop in-house calibers with distinctive German watchmaking traditions.
