British microbrand creating accessibly-priced mechanical watches inspired by stories of human endeavour. Each collection is named after bodies of water in Britain, with models celebrating iconic British adventurers, craftsmen, and visionaries. Known for small-batch production with hand-checked quality and unique serial numbers.
Marloe Watch Company was founded in 2015 when marketer Oliver Goffe emailed industrial designer Gordon Fraser with an idea to create well-designed mechanical watches at accessible prices. Oliver had grown disillusioned after discovering a cheap plastic quartz movement inside his expensive branded watch. The partners agreed to create beautifully engineered timepieces with 'mechanical beating hearts' for the price of high street fashion watches. Their first concept, the Cherwell (named after the river flowing through Oliver's native Oxford), launched on Kickstarter with a £30,000 target but raised £179,194 from 932 backers. The company name comes from Marlow, Oliver's hometown on the River Thames, near their headquarters in Sonning Common. Marloe has since become a customer-owned watch brand and established itself as a respected name in the flourishing British watch industry.
