Dutch independent watchmaker pioneering 3D metal printing technology in haute horlogerie. Founded by architect-turned-watchmaker Michiel Holthinrichs, the brand creates architecturally-inspired timepieces featuring 3D-printed cases in titanium, steel, gold, and platinum. Known for Art Nouveau and Art Deco-influenced designs that push the boundaries of case construction and ornamental detail.
Holthinrichs Watches was founded in 2016 by Michiel Holthinrichs, who studied architecture at Delft University of Technology before transitioning to watchmaking. His fascination with ornaments in architecture—where design, symbolism, technique, and craft converge—led him to horology. After approximately four years of pioneering research into 3D metal printing technologies, Holthinrichs created his debut timepiece, the Ornament 1, featuring an unprecedented skeletonized case shape impossible to achieve through traditional machining. Operating from a historic atelier in the city centre of Delft with panoramic windows allowing passersby to observe the watchmaking process, Holthinrichs has built a team of watchmakers, industrial designers, and engineers. The brand's philosophy of 'Horlogerie Brut'—inspired by Le Corbusier's Béton Brut—emphasizes material honesty and showcasing the intrinsic beauty of materials and manufacturing processes. In 2023, Holthinrichs entered a new era with the DECONSTRUCTED, featuring the in-house Calibre HW-M01 (approximately 50% Dutch-made) and an integrated 3D-printed titanium bracelet. The 2024 Ornament Nouveau marked another milestone with a fully in-house movement, cementing the brand's position among elite independent watchmakers.
