Independent Swiss watchmaker based in the Vallée de Joux, creating limited-production haute horlogerie timepieces with innovative in-house movements and extremely high level of hand-finishing.

Romain Gauthier was born in 1975 in the Vallée de Joux. He specialized in precision mechanics and worked as a machine programmer-operator at François Golay. A 2002 visit to watchmaker Philippe Dufour inspired him to develop his own movement. Working after hours with employer-granted factory access, he developed his first caliber HM 2206 between 2002 and 2005. He established Romain Gauthier in Le Sentier in 2005 and debuted at Baselworld 2007 with the Prestige HM. In 2013, the Logical One with its ruby-link chain constant-force mechanism won Best Men's Complication at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève. Gauthier opened a purpose-built manufacture in 2014. The brand received fine watchmaking certification from the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie in 2016. In 2017, the Insight Micro-Rotor was launched. Romain Gauthier joined SIHH in 2018.
