Qian GuoBiao is an independent watchmaker based in Dongguan, China. He spent years repairing complicated mechanical watches before creating his own, and now produces original timepieces under his own name.
Born in 1975 in Ninghai, Zhejiang, Qian GuoBiao (钱国标, also known as A.Biao) trained as a precision mechanical engineer in the mold industry. His interest in watches came from his father's Shanghai Watch Factory pieces. He was self-taught, learning through repair work and watch forums, and picked up the nickname 'Tourbillon Doctor' among Chinese collectors for servicing complicated movements that Swiss factories charged six-figure fees to repair. He quit his engineering job in 2005 to work on watches full time. He had already built a handful of experimental pieces in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2008 he set up his own brand, producing the Opus series: simple layouts with visible movement architecture and high-quality hand finishing. His 2018 Facing the Sky prototype, a 43mm watch with a dial-side flying balance wheel, marked his shift to fully in-house complications. Since then he has added the Double Balance Wheel, a Split Seconds Chronograph, and the Facing the Sky 2.0 (2025), limited to 12 pieces.
