Franco-Chinese microbrand celebrating Chinese culture and craftsmanship through fine watchmaking. The name combines the French word for workshop (Atelier) with the Chinese word for culture (文, Wén). Known for métier d'art dials including hand-guilloche, porcelain, and grand feu enamel, all proudly made in China with premium Chinese movements and artisanal dial work.
Atelier Wen was founded by Robin Tallendier and Wilfried Buiron, two French friends who met while studying at Peking University in Beijing. United by their deep passion for Chinese culture and frustration with Western dismissiveness toward Chinese craftsmanship, they began developing their first watches in 2017. The brand officially launched via Kickstarter in October 2018 with the Porcelain Odyssey collection, reaching its funding goal in under 30 minutes. After a hiatus with valuable lessons learned, development resumed in 2020 with higher ambitions. The Perception collection launched in April 2022 and sold out its initial batch in 16 hours. The brand has since grown significantly, introducing the Ancestra dress watch and the haute horlogerie Inflection collection featuring tantalum cases and Girard-Perregaux movements.
