Louis Erard was founded in 1929 in Le Noirmont, Switzerland. The brand built a reputation for regulator watches, a complication where hours, minutes, and seconds are displayed on separate axes. In 2003, Alain Spinedi and Manuel Emch acquired the brand and refocused it on creating accessible complicated watches through collaborations with contemporary artists and designers including Alain Silberstein and Eric Giroud. This strategy allowed the brand to offer sophisticated complications at accessible price points. The brand has shipped over 200,000 watches from its Le Noirmont workshop and remains independently operated, maintaining its focus on accessible Swiss mechanical watchmaking with artistic partnerships.
