Swiss sports watch manufacturer known for its iconic red triangle logo. Founded as the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation, Alpina has been producing luxury sports watches designed for challenging alpine and outdoor environments for over 140 years.
Alpina was founded in 1883 when watchmaker Gottlieb Hauser established the Swiss Watchmakers Corporation (Corporation d'Horlogers Suisses), uniting skilled watchmakers to develop their own components. The Alpina Ebauche Factory in Geneva created movements that formed the foundation of the brand's calibres. In 1912, the company developed its first chronometer Ebauche with a Glashütte escapement. By 1921, Alpina began supplying timepieces to military personnel, including pilot's watches. In 1928, Alpina patented its innovative screw-down crown for its first sports watch. The landmark Alpine 4, launched in 1938, featured four groundbreaking characteristics: anti-shock, anti-magnetic protection, stainless steel construction, and waterproofness. The Seastrong diving line debuted in 1969 with the Diver 10. The brand survived the quartz crisis by scaling back operations and was later acquired by Frederique Constant, now part of the Citizen Watch Group.
