Swiss luxury watchmaker known for elegant timepieces inspired by music and the arts. One of the few remaining independent, family-owned Swiss watch brands, now in its third generation of family leadership.
Raymond Weil founded his eponymous brand in Geneva in 1976 alongside Simone Bédat, initially selling watch designs from a foldout bridge table at a stall in Geneva. The brand was established during the quartz crisis and successfully positioned itself in the accessible luxury segment, offering both mechanical and quartz timepieces. Weil marketed internationally to lower-end luxury watch buyers, building the brand into a global presence. Simone Bédat and her son departed in 1996 to establish Bédat & Co. Raymond Weil led the company until his retirement in 2002 and passed away in January 2014 at age 87. His grandson Elie Bernheim assumed the role of CEO in 2014, continuing the family legacy. The brand experienced a notable resurgence in 2023 when the Millesime Small Seconds won the Challenge Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), often called the 'Oscars' of watchmaking.
