Angelus
RevivedSwiss watchmaking manufacture established in 1891 by the brothers Stolz in Le Locle, known for creating exceptional chronograph and multi-complication wristwatches, revived in 2015 by La Joux-Perret.
Brothers Albert and Gustav Stolz, former students of Henri Sandoz, established their Angelus manufacture in Le Locle in 1891. Charles Stolz joined in 1898. Angelus specialized in complicated movements including repeaters and chronographs, earning gold medals at international expositions in Paris (1902), Liege (1905), and Philadelphia (1926). In 1925, they launched their first in-house monopusher chronographs. In 1942, Angelus created the Chronodato, the world's first series chronograph with calendar. In 1955, Panerai chose Angelus calibre SF240 for Italian navy watches. The Tinkler of 1958 was the first automatic repeater wristwatch and the first waterproof repeater wristwatch. The brand fell dormant after the quartz crisis. In 2015, Manufacture La Joux-Perret, owned by Citizen Group, revived Angelus with a new manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
