Japanese luxury watch brand founded by AHCI independent master watchmaker Hajime Asaoka. KURONO TOKYO offers accessible timepieces sharing the design DNA of Asaoka's exclusive handmade atelier watches, combining traditional Japanese craftsmanship with Art Deco aesthetics. The brand is known for its exceptional dial work, including hand-lacquered urushi dials crafted by master artisans in Kyoto.
KURONO TOKYO was established in 2019 by Hajime Asaoka, a Gendai no Meiko (honored modern master craftsman of Japan) and member of the prestigious Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI). The brand launched domestically as Chrono Tokyo in 2018 before expanding internationally as KURONO TOKYO in 2019. Asaoka created the brand to make his distinctive Art Deco design language accessible to a wider audience, leveraging relationships with contract suppliers who understood his exacting standards. The first models were 37mm dress watches priced at $1,750, featuring Miyota movements. The brand has since expanded to include complications like GMT and chronograph models, and established physical salons in Aoyama, Tokyo and Shanghai. KURONO TOKYO has received international recognition including nominations at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), with the GMT 1 reaching finalist status in the Challenge category at the 2023 GPHG.
