Arcanaut
ActiveDanish independent watch brand combining Scandinavian design with experimental materials, including proprietary D'Arc Matter slate composite and Fordite dials.
Arcanaut was conceived during a Copenhagen bar conversation in 2015 when Anders Brandt criticized friend Simon Goldmann's Swiss watch for poor ergonomics and overcomplicated design. Three years of development followed, culminating in the ARC-I proof-of-concept release in 2018 - a limited run of 50 pieces that sold out almost immediately. The brand officially launched as Arcanaut in 2019. In 2020, materials expert James Thompson (Black Badger), known for collaborations with MB&F and De Bethune, joined as co-owner and Chief of Materials Development. The name combines 'Arcane' (hidden knowledge) with 'naut' (traveler). Watches are manufactured in Denmark using mostly Scandinavian materials, and feature a patented integrated square crown design.
