The ETA 6497-1 is the updated and rebranded version of the original Unitas 6497, introduced in 1967 when the movement was modernized under ETA. Operating at 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz), it maintains the classic Lépine configuration with small seconds at 9 o'clock. Updates included a pallet lever bridge (replacing the traditional cock), banking pins integrated into the bridge, upgraded hairspring stud, and the Etachron regulator for consistency with other ETA movements. The 44-degree lift angle and robust construction made it a favorite for pilot watches and large timepieces. Used extensively by Panerai (OP series), Hamilton, Tissot, Laco, Stowa, and countless microbrands.
