Wakmann
RevivedAmerican watch brand founded in 1946, acquired by a Chinese company; trademark is held but production has not been revived.
Wakmann Watch Company was founded in 1946 in New York by Ikehataro Wakmann. The brand is notable for its 1947 joint venture with Swiss manufacturer Breitling, forming the Breitling Watch Corporation of America. Wakmann imported unassembled Swiss watch parts (primarily from Breitling) and assembled them in the US, circumventing import duties. The company supplied cockpit clocks to the US military and civilian aviation markets. The original company ceased operations, but the Wakmann trademark was later acquired by a Chinese company, which registered the domain wakmann.ch but has not revived production.
