Lilian Thibault said in a Monochrome interview that he started AWAKE in 2018 with Frédéric Ly and Nghia Nguyen to propose a more responsible and innovative approach to watchmaking. The brand first gained wider attention around its recycled-material G7 watch and later with the Mission to Earth series, including NASA-associated models using recycled titanium, meteorite, NFC and blockchain-linked experiences. AWAKE has since moved upmarket toward numbered Swiss Made automatic watches, with assembly and regulation in La Chaux-de-Fonds and a focus on handmade Sơn Mài lacquer dials.
