American microbrand creating coffee-inspired timepieces with retro aesthetics. Each watch draws design inspiration from industrial espresso machines, featuring warm contrasting colors, distinctive brushing effects, and details like espresso shot timing markers (25-35 seconds) on chronograph subdials. Known for cushion and rectangular case designs with a funky 1970s vibe.
Brew Watch Co. was founded in 2015 by industrial designer Jonathan Ferrer while sitting in a New York City café. Noticing baristas using simple kitchen timers to time espresso shots, Ferrer conceived of a watch that would be both functional for coffee professionals and aesthetically inspired by the coffee experience. He launched the brand's first offering, the Special Blend, on Kickstarter that year, raising over $35,000 with 142 backers. Ferrer, who studied industrial design at New Jersey Institute of Technology and had prior experience designing white-label watches for brands like Crayola and Coleman, initially ran the entire operation from his NYC apartment with help from his mother for fulfillment. The brand has evolved from Kickstarter launches to direct sales, with production runs of 400-500 pieces per model. By 2021, Brew had grown enough to move into dedicated office space in Manhattan, with plans for more US-based assembly and a full-time watchmaker.
