Swiss watchmaker known for architecture-inspired designs, chronometer certification, and value in the mid-range segment.

Mido was founded on November 11, 1918 by George G. Schaeren in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. In the 1920s, the brand gained recognition for innovative automotive-themed watches shaped like car radiator grills for marques including Bugatti, Buick, and Fiat. The landmark Multifort collection launched in 1934 as the first Mido with automatic movement, featuring shock resistance, anti-magnetism, and water resistance. In 1945, Mido became the first manufacturer to introduce a central-read chronograph. The Commander model debuted in 1959 with a revolutionary one-piece case design. In 1967, Mido achieved distinction for creating the world's thinnest ladies' watch. The innovative Aquadura cork crown sealing system was introduced in 1970, using natural cork to ensure superior water resistance. The 1990s saw the launch of the practical World Timer complication. Mido became part of the Swatch Group in 1983 and is now headquartered in Le Locle. Today, the brand ranks among the top four Swiss producers of certified chronometers.
