MB&F
ActiveMB&F (Maximilian Büsser and Friends) is a Geneva-based watch brand that produces small series of concept timepieces, openly crediting the independent watchmakers and artisans who collaborate on each creation.
Maximilian Büsser founded MB&F in July 2005 in Geneva after leaving his role as head of Harry Winston Rare Timepieces. The brand debuted with Horological Machine No.1 (HM1) in 2007, designed by Eric Giroud with a movement by Laurent Besse, featuring four mainspring barrels and a central tourbillon. The HM2 followed in 2008, and the HM3 and HM4 in 2009 and 2010. Business proved challenging in the early years due to the global financial crisis. In October 2011, MB&F launched the Legacy Machine LM1, a round-cased collection with movement bridges designed by Kari Voutilainen and built by Jean-François Mojon of Chronode. That same year, the first M.A.D. (Mechanical Art Devices) Gallery opened in Geneva. The LM1 won Best Men's Watch and the Public Prize at GPHG in 2012. The LM Sequential EVO won the Aiguille d'Or at GPHG in 2022. The M.A.D. House, the brand's home base in Geneva, was inaugurated in 2022. In 2024, Chanel acquired a 25% stake, with Büsser retaining 60% and co-founder Serge Kriknoff holding 15%.
