Swiss luxury watchmaker renowned for marine chronometers and innovative haute horlogerie. Pioneer in silicon escapement technology with the revolutionary Freak collection.
Founded in 1846 by 23-year-old Ulysse Nardin in Le Locle, Switzerland, the company became legendary for its marine chronometers, supplying over 50 navies worldwide from the late 19th century through 1950. The brand earned 4,324 certificates from Neuchâtel Observatory and 18 gold medals at international exhibitions. After struggling during the quartz crisis, businessman Rolf Schnyder acquired and revitalized the company in 1983, partnering with watchmaker Ludwig Oechslin to create innovative complications. The 2001 Freak watch pioneered silicon escapement technology in the industry. Following Schnyder's death in 2011, the company was acquired by Kering in 2014. The brand continues to operate from its original Le Locle headquarters, occupied since 1865.
