Corum
ActiveSwiss watchmaker founded in 1955, known for the Admiral's Cup, Golden Bridge, and coin watch collections.
Corum was founded in 1955 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by Gaston Ries and his nephew René Bannwart. The brand name derives from the Latin 'quorum,' reflecting the founders' collaborative approach. Ries had operated a watchmaking facility since 1924. The first Corum watches were produced in 1956. The Admiral's Cup collection launched in 1960, initially as a sailing regatta chronograph and later evolving into a sports watch with a dodecagonal case and nautical pennant hour markers. The $20 gold coin watch, introduced in the 1960s, became one of Corum's signature pieces. The Romulus collection launched in 1966, featuring bezel-mounted Roman numerals. The Golden Bridge, with its linear baguette movement visible through a transparent case, was introduced in 1980. In January 2000, Severin Wunderman acquired the company and introduced the Bubble collection with its domed sapphire crystal. Following Wunderman's death in 2008, his son Michael led the company until its sale to China Haidian Holdings in April 2013. The parent company rebranded to Citychamp Watch & Jewellery Group in 2014.
