German luxury watchmaker renowned for authentic WWII Flieger (pilot) watches and Bauhaus-inspired designs. One of only five manufacturers commissioned by the Luftwaffe to produce B-Uhr observation watches during World War II, alongside A. Lange & Söhne, Laco, Wempe, and IWC. Known for exceptional value through direct-to-consumer sales model.
Founded in 1927 by Walter Storz in Hornberg in the Black Forest, the name STOWA derives from STOrz WAter. The company moved to Pforzheim in 1935 and built its own factory in 1938. That same year, STOWA introduced its iconic Bauhaus watches, which form the basis of today's Antea collection. In 1939, STOWA began producing Marine observation watches and the legendary 55mm B-Uhr pilot watches for the German Luftwaffe, establishing its reputation for precision military timepieces. The factory was destroyed in the Allied bombing of Pforzheim on February 23, 1945, but production resumed in Rheinfelden near Basel. Walter Storz died in 1974, and his son Werner continued the business. In 1996, master watchmaker Jörg Schauer acquired STOWA and revived its heritage collections, particularly the Flieger pilot watches. In 2021, STOWA became part of Tempus Arte GmbH & Co. KG, joining other prestigious German brands including Lang & Heyne Dresden.
