Vortic Watch Company
ActiveAmerican manufacturer converting salvaged antique American pocket watch movements into one-of-a-kind wristwatches using modern manufacturing.
Founded in 2013 by R.T. Custer and Tyler Wolfe, two Penn State University industrial engineering students who discovered that metal 3D printed prototypes had a uniquely vintage aesthetic. The founders recognized that many antique American pocket watch movements had become orphaned from their original precious metal cases, which were often scrapped. By reverse-engineering antique parts, they created wristwatch cases that could house these historic movements. The company was conceived in Pennsylvania before relocating to Fort Collins, Colorado. Vortic has been recognized by The New York Times, NPR, The Boston Globe, WatchTime Magazine, and other publications. Their watches are displayed at the NAWCC Museum in Columbia, PA and the Charles River Museum of Industry in Waltham, MA. The company later launched Colorado Watch Company as a sister brand for modern automatic watches.
