Accutron
RevivedSince 1960, Accutron has shaped the future of time, revolutionizing watchmaking through its proprietary movements from the world's first tuning fork to today's electrostatic energy innovation.
In 1960, Bulova produced the Accutron, the world's first tuning fork electronic watch. The tuning fork mechanism delivered accuracy of one minute per month, far surpassing mechanical watches of the era. The Spaceview model, with its exposed movement showing the green circuit board and copper tuning fork coils, became iconic. Accutron movements served as timing instruments on communications satellites and in cockpit instruments for the Apollo lunar missions. Production of the original tuning fork movement ceased in 1977. Bulova was acquired by Citizen Watch Co. in 2008. In 2020, the Citizen Group split Accutron off from Bulova and launched it as a standalone brand featuring a new electrostatic energy mechanism, a technology never before used in wristwatches. The system uses electrostatic generators powered by arm movement, storing energy in a capacitor to drive an electrostatic motor.
