Aristo is a German watch manufacturer from Pforzheim, the historic watchmaking center known as 'Little Geneva.' Founded by Julius Epple in 1907, the brand specializes in affordable yet well-crafted pilot watches, dive watches, and sports timepieces. Since 2005, the company operates as Aristo Vollmer GmbH after merging with the Ernst Vollmer bracelet manufacturing company, combining over a century of watchmaking heritage with metalworking expertise.
The Aristo Uhren- und Uhrgehäusefabrik was founded in 1907 by watchmaker Julius Epple in Pforzheim, initially producing jewelry components before progressing to watch cases and complete watches. In 1934, Aristo developed its own in-house movement, the JE Urofa 56. The company officially registered its name on January 31, 1936. During World War II, Aristo supplied military timing instruments to the German Air Force, producing observation watches (B-Uhren) for the Reich Aviation Ministry. After the war, Helmut Julius Epple III diversified the business through partnerships and sub-brands including Deguna, and exported under labels like Zentra, Regent, and Adora. In 1993, the company was briefly sold to Uhrentechnik Weimar but was reacquired by the Epple family in 1995. In 1998, Helmut Epple appointed watch designer Hansjörg Vollmer as his successor. Vollmer, whose family had operated Ernst Vollmer GmbH (a watch bracelet manufacturer since 1922), merged both companies in October 2005 to form Aristo Vollmer GmbH, uniting traditional watchmaking with precision metal bracelet manufacturing.
