The Angelus SF 240, introduced in 1936 as the world's smallest 8-day alarm movement, was modified by Stolz Frères specifically for Panerai in 1955 and 1961. Panerai commissioned 17-jewel non-alarm crown-wind versions with Incabloc shock protection and Glucydur balance for their GPF 2/56 'Big Egiziano' (60mm) and Reference 6152/1 watches. The 8-day power reserve reduced winding frequency compared to the Rolex 618 movements previously used. Movements marked '12.55', 'MAI.61', or 'JUIN.61' denote production dates. Later used in modern limited editions PAM 203 (2005) and PAM 267 (2008) with refinished vintage movements.
