An evolution of the Caliber 401 with the addition of a date complication. The 402 represented Vulcain's effort to modernize the Cricket line with practical everyday features. Like the 401, it shares its mainspring barrel between timekeeping and alarm functions, resulting in the shorter 15-second alarm duration. This caliber was used in various Cricket models through the 1960s and was also supplied to other brands including Waltham for their alarm watches. The addition of the date function made it more versatile as a daily wearer, though the trade-off in alarm performance meant collectors often prefer earlier double-barrel variants.
