The successor to the original Caliber 120, introduced in the early 1960s. The 401 features a seconds subdial but uses a shared barrel system for both timekeeping and alarm functions, which reduced the alarm duration to approximately 15 seconds compared to the 25 seconds of the original 120. This compromise allowed for the addition of the small seconds complication but meant the alarm drew power from the same source as the movement. While more practical for everyday use due to the added seconds display, purists generally prefer the original Cal. 120 for its superior alarm performance.
