The Unitas 6498 is the 'Savonette' or 'Hunter' variant of the famous 6497, with small seconds positioned at 6 o'clock (90 degrees clockwise from the crown). This configuration was designed for hunter-case pocket watches where the protective front cover pivots at 6 o'clock. Introduced alongside the 6497 in the 1950s, it shares the same robust 36.6mm architecture. Later rebranded as ETA 6498-1 (18,000 vph) and 6498-2 (21,600 vph with 53-hour power reserve). Used by prestigious brands including Omega (Cal. 2201 in Seamaster Aqua Terra), TAG Heuer (Calibre 1), and numerous independents. The movement's large bridges provide an excellent canvas for decorative finishing and skeletonization.
