The legendary UROFA Caliber 59 was the first German flyback chronograph movement, developed from 1939-1941 for the Tutima pilot's chronograph used by the German Luftwaffe. Featured column wheel control, monometallic screw balance, and Nivarox Breguet balance spring. Approximately 30,000 watches were produced between 1941-1945 before production was halted by WWII. The movement's blueprints were lost when Russian forces dismantled the Glashütte factories in 1945. The 'Tempostopp' (flyback) function was revolutionary for German watchmaking at the time.
