The Caliber 7121 is Audemars Piguet's entirely new ultra-thin movement, developed from scratch to replace the legendary cal. 2120/2121 that powered every Royal Oak 'Jumbo' since 1972. It features 268 total components and an innovative layout with the entire gear train relocated to the edge of the movement, forming an arc on the outer edge of the base plate. This freed up the center for a larger barrel that maximizes energy storage, resulting in a 55-hour power reserve (versus 40 hours for the 2121). The movement also finally adds quickset date function, eliminating the need to cycle hands back and forth past midnight. The decorative barrel bridge is open-worked rose gold with three surface jewels acting as contact bearings for the ratchet wheel. Debuted in the Royal Oak 'Jumbo' Extra-Thin ref. 16202.
