Movado was founded in 1881 by Achille Ditesheim in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The brand is best known for its Museum Watch, designed by Nathan George Horwitt in 1947, featuring a single metallic dot at 12 o'clock representing the sun at high noon. The design was the first watch dial admitted to the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection in 1960. In 1983, the company was purchased by North American Watch Corporation and is now headquartered in New Jersey. The Movado Group also owns Concord, EBEL, Olivia Burton, MVMT, and licensed brands.
