Heuer was founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer in St-Imier, Switzerland. The company pioneered numerous chronograph innovations including the oscillating pinion (1887) and co-developed one of the first automatic chronographs (Calibre 11, 1969). Famous models include the Carrera, Monaco (worn by Steve McQueen in Le Mans), and Autavia. Heuer became the first Swiss watchmaker in space when John Glenn wore a Heuer stopwatch in 1962. The company was acquired by TAG in 1985 (becoming TAG Heuer) and subsequently by LVMH in 1999.
